Suriya’s highly anticipated film Kanguva has sparked mixed reactions from audiences and critics, with some praising its visuals while others express disappointment over the storyline. In response to the negative reviews, Suriya’s wife and actress Jyothika shared a passionate post on Instagram, defending the film against the backlash it has received.
Jyothika expressed her astonishment at the level of criticism the film has garnered, particularly highlighting the contrast between Kanguva and other high-budget films that often feature outdated narratives and problematic themes. She remarked, “I’m surprised by the negative reviews from the media and certain groups, especially considering they haven’t held other big-budget films to such a high standard—films that feature outdated plots with outdated dialogues, over-the-top action, and troubling portrayals of women.”
She also emphasized the positive elements of Kanguva that she feels critics have overlooked. In particular, she pointed to the impressive women-centered action sequence in the second half and the storyline involving the young boy’s journey through love and betrayal. “What about the good parts?” she questioned, lamenting that such details were seemingly ignored in the reviews. Jyothika expressed her frustration over the quick negative response to the film, even before audiences had a chance to fully experience it.
In her post, she praised the creative team behind Kanguva, highlighting the effort that went into producing the film’s exceptional visual effects, especially the 3D elements. “The concept and the stunning 3D visuals deserve applause,” she wrote, encouraging the team to be proud of their work despite the criticism.
Jyothika concluded with a powerful message, urging her followers to support the film and appreciate the hard work that went into creating a cinematic experience. She criticized those who focus solely on negativity without contributing anything constructive to the industry, adding, “The ones criticizing are doing little to uplift cinema.”
