On September 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative over the past decade and expressed his determination to transform India into “a powerhouse of manufacturing and innovation.”
He took to social media platform, X (formerly Twitter) to say, “On this day marking #10YearsOfMakeInIndia, I commend all who have tirelessly contributed to this movement over the last ten years. ‘Make in India’ reflects the unified determination of 1.4 billion Indians to turn our country into a hub of manufacturing and innovation
“Exports are up, capacities are built, and our economy is stronger than ever. The Government of India will keep championing ‘Make in India’ and pushing reforms. Together, we will achieve an Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat” he stated.

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, reflecting on the 10th anniversary of Make in India, stated that the initiative has significantly boosted both domestic and foreign investment in the country.
The minister also noted that the manufacturing employment has grown by 200% from 2022 to 2024. He also highlighted that 99% of mobile phones in the country are now produced domestically, showcasing the positive impact of the ‘Make in India’ movement.He mentioned that over the past decade, a series of transformative reforms have been implemented, including the groundbreaking Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, aimed at boosting manufacturing capabilities in key sectors.
In a recent social media post, the minister highlighted a remarkable transformation in mobile imports since the launch of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. In 2014-15, mobile imports stood at ₹48,609 crore, but this figure plummeted to just ₹7,665 crore by 2023-24. This significant reduction underscores the initiative’s success in boosting local manufacturing and promoting self-reliance in the technology sector.
Additionally, Mr Goyal emphasized that Make in India has established a solid foundation for the nation’s journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat (developed India) by 2047, paving the way for future industrial and economic growth.
